Consequences of homonormative media
Homonormativity is inherently exclusive because it normalizes a certain type of queer identity that is in line with oppressive heteronormative standards and stamps out diverse, marginalized queer identities and voices.
Homonormativity:
Consider "May the Circle Stay Unbroken: Friends, the Presence of Absence and the Rhetorical Reinforcement of Whiteness" and "Representations of Masculinity and Commodification in Fraiser."
Homonormativity:
- effectively maintains racist, classist systems
- participates in the erasure of diverse queer voices
- gives "politically correct" queers access to straight privilege
- does not leave room for alternative relationship structures
- does nothing to counter violence against non-normative queer bodies
- ignores the issues that are unique to the queer "community" (i.e. HIV/AIDS, criminalization of HIV)
- marginalizes the struggles of less visible queer populations (i.e. homeless LGBT youth)

Who gets left out?
- trans* individuals
- certain types of gay men
- homeless LGBT youth
- non-normative queers
- individuals living with HIV
- bisexuals
- pansexuals
- polyamorous individuals
